Baldi, Bianca

Bianca Baldi focuses her interest upon imaging systems and moments in history through which she reflects various associated systems of knowledge, thinking and power. Entitled "Eyes in the Back of Your Head", her solo exhibition at the Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof in 2017 featured a textile installation filling an entire room coupled with a new video. The installation and the video fuse photographs of the construction of the Kamina radio station (1911–14) in the former German colony Togo and a talismanic scroll from the same region – both from the Slovene Ethnographic Museum in Ljubljana – into a multifacetted interplay of physical manifestations of invisible forces. Based on the same historical material, her annual edition unfurls a deserted landscape tableau and references the translucent, maze-like installation at the Kunstverein.

Bianca Baldi (*1985 in Johannesburg, ZA) studied Fine Arts in Cape Town, Venice and Frankfurt a.M. She participated in numerous large international exhibitions, such as the 8th Berlin Biennale, KW Institute Contemporary Art, Berlin, the 19th Contemporary Art Festival SESC Videobrasil, Sao Paolo and the 11th Shanghai Biennale, Shanghai, as well as group exhibitions at Extra City Kunsthal, Antwerp, Kunstverein Braunschweig and Kunstverein Frankfurt as well as at MMK, Frankfurt a.M. In 2017 she had her first institutional solo exhibition at Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof.
