Monument to an unstable state
Katja Aufleger's videos, sculptures and installations integrate aesthetic precision, subtle humour and critical observation of (social) contexts and systems. The key element in her works generally takes place beyond what we see or what is being represented. It is realised as an intimation or an idea that actually coalesces in the course of perception. The titles are important components of this process, as in the case of the work "BANG!", which comprises hand-blown glass flasks with a number of compartments. The compartments are filled with different liquids or substances, which, if combined, would explode. In respect of its seemingly almost impossible equilibrium, its materiality as well as the manner of its production, Katja Aufleger's annual edition similarly refers to such volatility.
Katja Aufleger (*1983 in Oldenburg, lives and works in Berlin) participated in exhibitions at a.o. Kestnergesellschaft Hanover, Stampa, Basel, Coup de Ville, Sint-Niklaas, Beijing International Art Biennale, Kunstverein in Hamburg and Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg. Katja Aufleger is part of artists group Galerie BRD.
